A History of Elem Candles Creation

-It all started by accident and turned into what is probably the biggest revolution in the candle industry of the past decade-

A candle kit bought as a Christmas present and a mishap helped Jerzy Madrzyk to invent a completely new kind of candle. As he experimented, Jerzy spilt some wax onto the candle shape, which turned into a flat sheet.

From that day onwards, Jerzy, who is known as Jurek to his family and friends, experimented with new methods of producing and burning candles. The idea of attaching the wick to the edge of the candle was what allowed him to develop completely new shapes. In 1999, Jerzy created a candle collection in new and fascinating shapes using a manufacturing technique he patented in his home country. He protected the candle shapes as an international design patent. He named his candles Elem Candles.

Jerzy Madrzyk died in June 2002, at the age of 56, without ever having experienced the success of his candles.

After his unexpected death, more and more imitators began to copy his idea and call themselves inventors of these products. In order to protect his work and to immortalise him in the history books as the true inventor; his family decided to sell his creations themselves under the name of Elem Candle.

Incidentally, the name ‘eLeM’ derives from the initials of his two sons, Lech and Marcin.
